Senior standout Hudson Hazekamp scored a three-goal hat trick in the first half on Thursday, propelling the still unbeaten Fruitport boys soccer team to a 5-0 victory over Hopkins in its O-K Silver conference opener.
The Trojans, the second-ranked Division 2 team in the state, are now 7-0-2 on the season.
Hazekamp now has nine goals this season. Fruitport also collected goals from Quincy McDaniels and Tanner Cappema in the second half to cap off the scoring.
Caleb Chandler, Jyles Smith and Tate Marshall had assists for the Trojans.

Fruitport goalies Sebastian Sweet and Sam Tompkins combined to get the shutout.
Coach Dan Hazekamp credited Cole Luker, Jayden Barnett, Cam Miller and Olsen Stone for their strong play.
“It was a great all around performance from our team,” the coach said. “Everyone contributed, and I thought we took some things from training and carried them into the game. It was great to see some adjustments as we continue to grow through the season.”
The Trojans will visit West Ottawa on Saturday.
