It took the Fruitport volleyball team a little while to adjust to Mona Shores on Saturday.
But the second time around it was no problem.
The Trojans posted a 3-0-1 record on Saturday and won the championship at their own Fruitport Invitational
Their’ tie came in a pool play match against Mona Shores, when they won the first set 25-21, then lost the second set pretty badly, 12-25.
In the championship match later in the day, however, Fruitport plowed its way past the Sailors 25-16, 25-23.

“I am so incredibly proud of this group and the effort they put in,”said Fruitport head coach Samantha Fehler, whose team is now 12-2-2 on the season. “It was a long, challenging day of competition, and being able to win our home tournament makes it even more special.
“From the first match to the last, their energy was contagious. Anyone who was here today could see how badly this team wanted to win it all.”
The Trojans won three other matches on their way to the title, beating Montague 25-19, 25-15, Oakridge 25-15, 25-16 and Coopersville 25-16, 25-19 in the semifinals.
Izzy Hanson-Wilbur led Fruitport with 37 kills while Emma Fecher had 22.
Hanson-Wilbur served 12 aces while Porter Johnson dished out six. Fecher had 44 assists and Alexa Sweet added 41.
Defensively, Regan Wilson had 51 digs, Johnson added 45 and Hanson-Wilbur totaled 32.
