It was a long drought for the Fruitport boys tennis team, but the Trojans broke out of it in a big way on Tuesday, downing Kelloggsville 8-0 in O-K Silver conference play.

Before the win, the Trojans had lost five matches in a row – to Big Rapids, Calvin Christian, Grand Haven, Forest Hills Eastern and Spring Lake – all by 8-0 scores.

They turned the tables by having a great day against Kelloggsville, winning five of the six matches played without losing a single game, and only losing two games overall.

Winners in singles for Fruitport were Remy Parker (No. 1 singles), who defeated Minh Le 6-0, 6-0; Nathan Medema (No. 2 singles), who downed Filiberto Gonzalez 6-0, 6-0; Bruno Nivoloni (No. 3 singles), who beat Thien Nguyen 6-0, 6-0; and Landon McMullin (No. 4 singles), who defeated Thien Pham 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles, Fruitport’s No. 1 team of Jackson Yandell and Jonathon Quigg beat their opponents 6-0, 6-0, while the No. 2 team of Dominik Kooy and Evan Olson beat their opponents 6-1, 6-1.

Kelloggsville forfeited the other two doubles matches.

The Trojans are now 2-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
