The Fruitport boys soccer team finally lost a game.

After posting seven wins and two ties through nine games, the Trojans fell to West Ottawa 2-0 in a non-conference matchup on Saturday.

West Ottawa scored once in the first half, then sealed the win with another goal on a penalty kick late in the game.

Goalie Sebastian Sweet stopped 8 of the 10 shots on goal he faced.

“It was a tough game on the road against a really good West Ottawa team,” said Fruitport head coach Dan Hazekamp. “We generated some chances early, hit the bar, and the game might have looked a little different if we could have converted.

“The experience of playing a good team, on the turf, and working in different personnel and lineups will benefit us as we continue conference play and get ready for the postseason.”

The Trojans will continue conference play with a game at Comstock Park on Tuesday.
