Fruitport volleyball team ends a busy opening day with a 3-2-1 record at the Coopersville Invitational

The Fruitport girls volleyball team posted a winning record in its first competition of the season on Friday at the Coopersville Invitational.

The Trojans came away with a 3-2-1 record in their first six matches of the season.

Fruitport earned wins over East Kentwood 25-17, 25-23, Oakridge 25-23, 25-12 and Ludington 25-19, 25-22.

The Trojans lost to Hart 25-27, 17-25 and Lakewood 21-25, 14-25.

Fruitport also had a split with Reeths Puffer, 25-22, 22-25.

The Trojans competed in the Silver Bracket and finished at the top.

Izzy Hanson-Wilbur led the Fruitport offense with 35 kills while Rowynn Miller had 24. Emma Fecher, Addison Bordeux and Josyln Nowicki had 18,16 and 10, respectively.

Regan Wilson served up eight aces, while Porter Johnson had five and Fecher contributed with four.

Alexa Sweet dished out 44 assists while Fecher had 41 and McKenna Joslyn chipped in with 13.

Fruitport was paced defensively by Wilson with 82 digs. Fecher added 27, Hanson-Wilbur had 24 and Sweet contributed 22.

Miller also chipped in on the defensive front with four blocks.

“We played tough and showed a lot of growth throughout the day,” said first-year Fruitport head coach Samantha Fehler. “We competed hard and identified some key areas we can continue to improve on.

“Most importantly, we finished the day on a high note, which gives us momentum moving forward. I’m proud of the way this team adjusted and I’m excited to see how much we can grow and what we can accomplish in the weeks ahead.” [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10] [11] [12] [13]
