It was quite an opening day for the Fruitport cross county teams.

Both Trojan squads had good success on Saturday at the Crusader Cross Country Classic at Muskegon Catholic Central High School.

In the girls race, all nine Fruitport runners finished in the top 20 of the individual standings and won medals. That included four who did not even earn team points, because only the top five from each school do that.

Fruitport’s Zoe German took fourth place individually with a time of 21:18, Claire Kohley was sixth (22:26), Peyhton Beardsley was seventh (22:40), Aynsley Merkins was 10th (23:38), Hailey Heisland was 13th (24:38), Gen Franklin was 15th (24:58), Breanna Cole was 17th (25:19), Brynley Merkins was 18th (25:19) and Chloe Kohley was 19th (25:27).

The Trojans finished in second place as a team with 34 points. Jenison took first with 22 points, North Muskegon was third with 95 and Wyoming Lee was fourth with 97.

In the boys race, Fruitport’s Christian Pavlige finished fourth in the individual standings with a time of 16:55 while Dylan Winskas was 15th with a time of 17:59. Both earned medals for their efforts.

 

Landon Przybylek finished 40th (21:09), Damon Marksbury finished 65th (25:09) and Carlos Cavero Rosel took 67th (25:20).

Fruitport took second in the team standings with 90 points, six points ahead of third-place Muskegon. Jenison took first place with 17 points.

“Both boys ran respectable times for an early season race,” Fruitport head coach Randy Johnson said about Pavlige and Winskas.  “The girls performed a bit better than the boys. All of the girls on the team medaled.”

Both Trojan teams will be back in action on Tuesday at the Fruitport Calvary Christian Invitational.
