The Fruitport boys tennis team is showing definite signs of varsity maturity.
Last year, with a very inexperienced lineup, the Trojans managed to win a total of two dual matches.
On Thursday, they reached half of that total in their very first try, beating Cedar Springs 5-3 in their first dual match of the season.

The Trojans gained the victory by winning two singles matches, then claiming three of the four doubles matches.
Fruitport’s No. 1 singles player, Remy Parker, had a good day, battling through a tough first set and beating Cedar Springs’ Mason Rop 7-6, 6-3.
Nathan Medema, the Trojans’ No. 2 singles player, rolled past Gage Cassidy 6-3, 6-3.
The real domination came in doubles.

Fruitport’s Jackson Yandell and Jonathan Quigg beat Brendon Schippers and Trenton Drew 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.
The No. 2 doubles team of Dominik Kooy and Evan Olson downed Noah Gierke and Sam Stachowiak in a tough three-set match, 6-2, 4-6, 10-5.
The No. 4 team of Carson Vallie and Elijah Wierenga downed Hunter Heidsma and Ian Westgate 6-1, 6-1.
“It’s good to get our first win under our belts, however we would have loved to have all of our flights contributing to the victory,” said Fruitport head coach Brad Busscher. “Fortunately, the win illuminated areas we want to clean up before next Wednesday’s match with Big Rapids.”
