The Fruitport boys soccer team used an eventful second half to beat Ludington 2-1 over Ludington in a non-conference road clash on Tuesday night.

After a scoreless first half, the Trojans struck first about midway through the second half when Hudson Hazekamp got the ball to Cole Luker, who netted the opening goal to give Fruitport a 1-0 lead.

With about 10 minutes remaining in the contest, Ludington evened the score.

The Trojans responded with about seven minutes remaining when Hazekamp headed a corner kick from Tate Marshall into the net, giving Fruitport its winning margin.

Fruitport Goalkeeper Sebastian Sweet picked up the victory with five saves.

Fruitport improved to 4-0-1 on the season.

“We knew this was a game we’d have to gut out,” said Trojans head coach Dan Hazekamp. “Ludington is a really solid team, and we had some guys get nicked up and had to find a way through.

“Finding a way to win on the road is something that will help us late in the season. Some of our young guys grew up today. I’m really proud of all the boys stepping up and finding  a way.”

The Trojans will return to action on Saturday when they travel to face Allendale.
