Six athletes from Fruitport boys track and field team win medals at GMAA meet

Nobody could keep up with first-place Mona Shores, but the Fruitport boys still had a good outing on Friday at the annual Greater Muskegon Athletic Association track and field meet.

Mona Shores ran away with the title with 117 points. Whitehall was second with 94, followed by Fruitport (52), Reeths-Puffer (51) and Oakridge (48) in the top five.

All 17 teams from Muskegon County competed in the event.

Fruitport did not have any event champions, but several Trojans won medals for very strong efforts.

Medals were awarded to the top two athletes in individual events, and the top three teams in relay events.

Fruitport’s Luke Westerlund finished second in the spot put and discus competition.

Nathaniel Cribley-Cotto finished second in the 200-meter dash.

Three Fruitport relay teams also won medals.

The 4×400 team of Cribley-Cotto, Damien Jones, Christian Pavlige and Ryder Merkins finished second.
