Five Fruitport athletes, and one relay team, qualify for the Division 2 boys state track and field finals

Five individual athletes from the Fruitport boys track team – and one relay team – qualified for the state track and field finals with their performances at a Division 2 regional meet on Friday at Allendale High School.

Athletes qualified for state by finishing first or second in an event, or met the state qualifying standard for time or distance.

Fruitport’s SeanPaul O’Brien had a strong showing, finishing second in the long jump with a distance of 21 feet, 4 inches.

Luke Westerlund finished third in the discus with with a distance of 148 feet, 7 inches. [1]

Emmitt Renauldo finished sixth in the pole vault by clearing 12 feet, 8 inches. Christian Pavlige finished sixth in the 800-megter run with a time of 1:59.44.

The 4×400 relay team, comprised of Nathaniel Cribley-Cotto, O’Brien, Pavlige and Ryder Merkins – finished in fourth place with a time of 3:30.02.

Pablo DeLong-Mayorga won a regional championship in the adaptive seated shot put competition with a throw of 12 feet, three inches.
