The Fruitport baseball team used a big sixth inning on Thursday to pick up a 12-4 victory over Greenville in non-conference action.
Fruitport trailed 3-0 after five innings, then exploded for 11 runs in the sixth to take control.
Hudson Hazekamp and Trevor Rusnak started the uprising with back-to-back singles before Dexter Lillmars hit an RBI single.
Satchel Norwood walked to load the bases before Garret Olson and Kolten Kennedy tied the game with back-to-back RBI singles.
[1]Brad Dekker was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to give Fruitport a 4-3 lead before Wyatt Fielstra hit a two-run single to make the score 6-3.
Hazekamp came back up and drew a bases loaded walk to make the score 7-3 before a Rusnak sacrifice fly extended the lead to 8-3.
Lillmars added an RBI triple while Norwood wrapped things up with a sacrifice fly to make the score 11-3.
Greenville and Fruitport each added a run in the seventh inning.
[3]Avery Lambers picked up the complete game victory on the mound, allowing just four hits and striking out six.
Fielstra totaled three hits in the victory while Lillmars, Olson and Rusnak each had two. Rusnak totaled his 100th career hit during the game.
“The boys showed some grit and fight,” said Fruitport head coach Nick Reed “They battled and finally broke through in a big way. We have a big week coming up next week.”
Fruitport is now 16-4 on the season.
