The Fruitport girls soccer team had to figure out a way to score against a packed-in Godwin Heights defense.
When that happened, Myla Parker stole the show.
Parker scored Fruitport’s first three goals, propelling the Trojans to a 5-0 road victory over Godwin Heights on Wednesday in their O-K Silver conference opener, and first game back from spring break.
The Trojans are now 3-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
Fruitport found itself playing an opponent that was completely focused on defense, which required some adjustments.
[1]“It was definitely the first game back from spring break,” said Fruitport head coach Kyle Hall. “Godwin packed 10 players in a very low block and did not look to go forward. Godwin had two touches on the ball inside Fruitport’s half.
“The girls took a minute, but adjusted and responded well to figuring out how to stretch out a team and find space when an opponent packs it in their own defensive 25 yards.”
By the time it was over, the Trojans had outshot the Wolverines 25-0.
After Parker’s three goals, Regan Wilson and Riley Lawsyn also found the net for Fruitport.
McKenna Joslyn had two assists for the Trojans and Olivia Cribley-Cotto had one.
The Trojans will return to action on Saturday with a non-conference home game against Whitehall.
