Fruitport tennis players Josalynn Nowicki and Brystol Tenhove have been playing some great tennis over the past few days.
Nowicki, the Trojans’ No. 1 singles player, went 3-0 and took first place at Saturday’s Jenison Invitational, then won her match on Tuesday in a dual against rival Spring Lake.
At Jenison, Nowicki defeated Cadillac’s Sara Outman 6-0 , 6-3, Jenison’s Kelsey Thompson 6-2, 6-2; and Grand Haven’s Willa Fuller 6-1, 6-0.
On Tuesday Nowicki cruised past Spring Lake’s Casey Ferguson 6-0, 6-0.
[1]Tenhove, the Trojans’ No. 4 singles player, went 2-1 and finished in second place at the Jenison tournament, then had a great comeback to win her match against Spring Lake.
At Jenison, beat Cadillac’s Maddie Smith 6-2, 6-2 and Jenison’s Alyssa Smith 6-1, 4-6 and 10-4 in the tiebreaker.
She had a great match against Spring Lake’s Tresa Goendyke, losing the first set 2-6, battling to win the second set 7-6, then winning the tiebreaker 10-7.
The two events did not go quite as well for the Trojans as a team, however.
[3]The Trojans finished fourth out of four teams at the Jenison Invitational with seven points. Grand Haven took first place with 18 points.
In the dual match against Spring Lake, the Trojans fell short by a close score of 5-3.
Nowicki, Tenhove and Abby Poort (No. 3 singles) won their matches for Fruitport, but Spring Lake won at No. 2 singles and swept all four doubles matches to claim the victory.
The Trojans will host NorthPointe Christian on Thursday in an O-K Silver conference match.
