The Fruitport softball team got two very welcome wins on Thursday, traveling to Ludington and beating the Orioles in both ends of a non-conference doubleheader.
The Trojans, a team with a lot of talent that’s been off to a slow start., improved its record to 4-4.
Fruitport won the opener 10-3. Maddie Anderson pitched a great game, shutting down the Orioles with 14 strikeouts while surrendering four hits.

The Trojan offense sprang to life with 12 hits. Kya Tawney had three hits, including two doubles. while Kendall Lee, Mady Prout, Aryssa St Amour and Sophie Christopher also had multiple hits.
The Fruitport defense had a clean game with no errors.
The Trojans completed the sweep with a 12-1 win in the nightcap.
They grabbed a 4-0 lead in the first inning on a three-run double by Sophie Christopher and an RBI hit by Lee. They added five runs in the fourth on a pair of two-run singles by Bri Chiaverini and Aryssa St. Amour and a one-run single by Kalli Tawney.

Kendall Prout, Chiaverini and Kallie Tawney had two hits apiece for Fruitport, which had hits and piled up seven walks.
Chiaverini and Anderson combined for the win on the mound.
“It was exciting to see these girls have a breakthrough night hitting at the plate,” said Fruitport head coach Katelyn Reynolds. “They have been working very hard in practice and making adjustments from our first few games, and tonight it showed.
“I am very proud of Maddie leading the way on the mound with 14 strikeouts in Game 1, and Bri continuing that pace in Game 2. The energy and vocal leadership from our defense was great to see as well.”
