LAST YEAR: The Trojans had a strong season in 2025, despite being very young and inexperienced, finished in second place in the O-K Silver conference and third out of 12 teams at the Greater Muskegon Athletic Association Meet. They did not have an athlete qualify to compete in the state finals.
LOTS OF PROMISING ATHLETES BACK: Fruitport returns quite a few athletes who showed real promise last season, and could take a big step up this season. The list includes juniors Chloe Anderson (fourth in the 100-meter dash and third in the 200-meter dash at the GMAA meet, third in the 100 and second in the 200 at conference meet); junior Lily Johnson (fifth in the high jump at the GMAA meet); junior Gen Franklin (fifth in the 100-meter hurdles and ninth in the 300-meter hurdles at GMAA meet, fifth in the 100 hurdles and fourth in the 300 hurdles at conference meet); junior Zoe German (third in the pole vault at both the GMAA and conference meet); sophomore Sallyanna Conn (fifth at GMAA meet in the discus); and sophomore Bailey Garner (fifth in the 400-meter dash at the GMAA meet). Other key returners are senior distance runner Gabby Witherspoon, junior sprint runner Layla Phan, sophomore sprint runner Morgan Kotecki and sophomore sprint runner/hurdler Milla Dykstra.
PROMISING FRESHMEN: Three freshmen newcomers are listed among those who could make a real impact for the team this season – sprinters Zavi Watkins and Gabby Morris and distance runner Claire Kohley.

SET FOR SEVERAL SEASONS: Fruitport should be very competitive this season, with a number of experienced athletes trending in the right direction, and could be even better in 2027, because most of the girls will be around for at least two years. The team roster is comprised of 15 juniors, 9 sophomores, seven freshmen and only one senior.
FIRST COMPETITION: Tuesday in a conference meet at Godwin Heights.
COACH QUOTE: “Our team continues to grow in numbers and quality. Our juniors will lead the team with their experience. Our underclass will hopefully follow their leadership and learn from their experience. We hope to improve a lot this season. This is a very positive team and they all work hard in practice. Our goal is to give each team in this league a run for its money.” – Randy Johnson
