The Fruitport girls tennis team may be ready to challenge for a conference championship.
The Trojans improved to 2-0-1 in the O-K Silver conference standings following a dominant 7-1 victory over Comstock Park on Tuesday.
Six of the Trojans’ seven victories were by straight sets. The other victory was due to injury default.
[1]Fruitport won 48 individual games in singles matches and lost only eight. The Trojans won 45 individual games in doubles matches and lost 19.
Singles winners for the Trojans were Josalynn Nowicki (No. 1), Emma Fecher (No. 2), Abby Poort (No. 3) and Brystol Tehhove (No. 4).
Doubles winners were Cara Hooker and Lena Saffell (No. 1), Rylee Rufener and Kaitlyn Tenbrink (No. 2) and Candela Pena and Journey Rufener (No. 4).
[3]“The Comstock Park match went well for most of the flights,” said Fruitport head coach Brad Busscher. “The girls seemed confident in their approach to their matches, and when tested made the shots necessary to close out games.
“We want that confidence and solid decision-making ability to be a large component of our tennis games moving forward.”
The Trojans will be back in action at home on Thursday.
