The Fruitport girls soccer team blitzed Whitehall with an amazing 33 shots on goal on Saturday, and somehow only managed to score twice.
But that proved to be enough for the Trojans, who walked away with a 2-0 non-conference victory over the Vikings.
It was the third straight victory for the Trojans, who are now 4-2 on the season. It was also their third straight shutout win, coming on the heels of a 1-0 win over Mona Shores and a 5-0 win over Godwin Heights.
The game was scoreless at halftime. Fruitport’s Myla Parker finally broke the deadlock nearly two-thirds of the way through the second half with a long shot that found the net.
[1]Parker now has four goals in the past two games.
Peyhton Beardsley added the final goal a few minutes later on a penalty kick.
“We created many chances today, but struggled to put the ball in the back of the net,” said Fruitport head coach Kyle Hall. “Overall the team continued to show growth and found a way to get a win.
“Our off-the-ball movement was far better today than Wednesday’s match. McKenna Joslyn turned in a very strong match in the center of the field.”
The Trojans will host Hopkins in an O-K Silver conference game on Monday.
