Fruitport boys golf team ready to tee off, hoping to repeat success of last year’s squad

LAST YEAR: The Fruitport boys golf team had a pretty great season in 2025, finishing second at the Greater Muskegon Athletic Association tournament (best finish ever) and second in the O-K Silver conference. The Trojans also shot what was believed to be the best round  in program history, with a score of 327 at last year’s Comstock Park Classic. Seniors Chase Sullivan and Tyler Carlson both earned first-team All-Conference honors.

HOPING TO KEEP SUCCESS GOING: Sullivan, Carlson and several other key players were lost to graduation, but the Trojans return several players from last season who seem prepared to take over leadership roles and step up their games. They include senior Eli Cuti (better known for his great varsity hockey career), juniors Landon Lodholtz, Tyler Cuti and Ryder Nadeau and sophomore Chase Marcus. Eli Cuti finished 13th at last year’s O-K Silver Championship Tournament.

PROMISING NEWCOMERS: Three newcomers are considered particularly promising, including two seniors – Evan LaGuire and Easton Fett – who made their marks in other sports before coming out for golf. Sophomore Jake Heckroth could also be a real contributor this season.

NEW HEAD COACH: The Trojans will be led by Nate Smith, Fruitport’s longtime varsity head football coach. He has experience with the program and the players after spending last season as the junior varsity coach. He will be assisted by Rob Stark, with Sam Gautraud coaching the JV squad.

PROGRAM GROWTH: Fruitport had a junior varsity squad for the first time last season, and this year had a record number of players trying out for the varsity or JV.

COACH COMMENT: “We graduated a great group of seniors who played great golf last year. The 2026 team learned a lot from that group, and we are preparing to perform to the standard they set.  We have a deep, competitive group of athletes who show up every day committed to improving.” – Nate Smith [5]mini [6] [7] [8] [9]storage [10] [11]
