LAST YEAR: The Trojans have operated for several years as a non-varsity club team. They didn’t win any matches last season, but are looking forward to a bright new start this season as they become a regular Fruitport varsity team and compete for conference and postseason honors.

STRONG BUILDING BLOCKS: The Trojans will build around four returning players who will each bring experience and unique abilities to the team. Senior setter/outside hitter Eddie Bouchard has become a leader for the team, and has developed remarkably well, considering last year was his first playing competitive volleyball. Junior Carson Vallie has also improved a lot and become a team leader. He has developed into a defensive specialist for the Trojans. Sophomore Tanner Cappama is the most experienced player on the team. He started out as the setter last season and was moved to outside hitter due to his emerging skills. The coaches are excited to see how he develops over the next three seasons. Sophomore Tate Marshall stepped naturally into the libero position last year, due to his passing skills and ability to dive and make great defensive plays.
A FEW NEW GUYS: Senior David Johnson-Jimenez, who is very familiar to Fruitport football and basketball fans, has joined the volleyball team this year and is sure to be a big presence on the court. Another promising newcomer is junior Damanpreet Singh.

ABOUT THE TEAM: The Trojans think they have a good blend of players with experience and some new guys with natural talent who are really taking to the sport. They are concerned about size, since they don’t have many tall players.
FIRST MATCH: Tuesday at West Ottawa in a multi-team event.
COACH QUOTE: “I am looking forward to this inaugural season. It’s been a dream of mine to have a boys program in high school. It’s something I wanted when I was in high school so I am excited to share my passion and love for this sport, and to provide the opportunity I didn’t get.” – Sam Moore
