The brand new Fruitport boys volleyball team competed in its varsity varsity tournament on Saturday at the West Ottawa Invitational.
The Trojans failed to get a victory in four matches, but did not go down easily, giving three of the four opponents some serious competition. They played particularly tough against West Ottawa and Mona Shores, pushing both to the maximum of three sets.
Fruitport fell to West Ottawa 17-25, 25-19, 14-16; Caledonia 23-25, 14-25; Zeeland 17-25, 12-25; and Mona Shores 25-19, 20-25, 11-15.
[1]“The boys played hard in their first tournament,” said Fruitport head coach Sam Moore. “They were competitive and pushed two teams to three sets. We are looking forward to meeting Zeeland and Mona Shores again in conference play!”

Cappema served six aces and Josh Eppard served five. Ed Bouchard totaled 53 assists.
