Nothing has been easy for the Fruitport baseball team so far this season, but the Trojans have demonstrated the ability to keep fighting and pull out wins.
Last week they grabbed a big early lead, lost it, then battled through to win their season opener against North Muskegon.
On Monday the Trojans fell behind early on two different occasions, but overcame both deficits to beat Covenant Christian 9-4 in a non-conference game on the road.
Fruitport is now 2-0 on the season.

The Trojans fell behind 1-0 in the first inning, then took the lead on a two-run double by freshman Garrett Olson.
Covenant Christian pulled ahead 3-1, then the Trojans tied the score when Satchel Norwood walked, advanced to second on a balk and came around to score on a double down the line by Hudson Hazekamp.
Hazekamp later scored on a fielder’s choice and a wild pitch, giving Fruitport a 4-3 advantage.
Fruitport extended its lead in the later innings. Wyatt Fielstra sparked the offense with a pinch-hit double and scored on a passed ball. Dexter Lillmars advanced to third on a Norwood single, and with the bases loaded, Fruitport plated runs via a walk to Hazekamp, a hit-by-pitch to Trevor Rusnak, another walk by Olson, and a hit-by-pitch to Kolton Kennedy, pushing the lead to 8-3.

Brad Dekker capped the scoring with an RBI single to right field.
Rusnak pitched a great game for Fruitport, overcoming a shaky start to strike out 10 and allow only three hits in 6 1/3 innings.
Hazekamp and Olson led the offense with two hits apiece.
