The Fruitport girls basketball keeps hanging in there with competitive efforts, despite injuries to key players.
The Trojans have been playing without leading scorer Izzy Hanson-Wilbur, and on Tuesday lost guard Lily Johnson to an ankle injury.
Fruitport battled anyway, but came up short in a 46-37 loss to Hopkins in O-K Green conference play.
[1]The Trojans fell behind 10-5 after one quarter. The teams played even in the second quarter and Hopkins led 16-11 at halftime.
Fruitport had a 17-16 edge in the third quarter and cut their deficit to 32-28.
Hopkins finished off the win with a 14-9 advantage in the fourth quarter.
“We had an unfortunate injury with Lily Johnson that took her out for our stretch run,” said Fruitport head coach Brian Packard. “She was playing great and did a really good job handling the ball for us. It hurt us when she went down.

“We have really been playing well the last couple weeks, we just haven’t been able to get over the hump to pull out the win.”
Fruitport is now 6-9 overall and 4-6 in conference play.

Regan Wilson added eight points, three rebounds and two steals.
