The Fruitport boys wrestling team has won the O-K Silver conference championship for the second straight year – or at least a share of it.
The Trojans accomplished that by sweeping the final two conference dual matches of the season on Wednesday – 51-14 over Hopkins and 72-10 over Kelloggsville.
That gave Fruitport a perfect 5-0 conference record heading into Friday’s O-K Silver tournament at Comstock Park High School. A first-place finish at the tournament would give the Trojans the outright championship.

“Strong finish to go undefeated in our conference dual schedule,” said Fruitport head coach Chad Johnson, whose team is 20-6 overall. “Tough wrestling, great effort, and our eyes are now on Friday’s conference tournament.”
The victory over Hopkins was the more impressive one on Wednesday, because the opponents had a nearly full lineup, so there was a lot of competition and only one forfeit.
Fruitport dominated by winning 9 of the 13 matches.
Fruitport’s Luke Westerlund (285 pounds), Rylan Thorsen (120) and Murphy Lengkeek (138) won their matches by pin.
Gideon Marksbury (157) and Austin Jacobs (113) won by technical fall while Colton Smith (190) and Murphy Lengkeek (138) won by major decision.
Other winners for the Trojans were Davis Johnson (150), Cooper Lengkeek (175) and Jeremiah Stone-Tyler (106).
The victory over Kelloggsville went a lot quicker, because the Wolverines had forfeits at a lot of weight classes.
Thorsen, Murphy Lengkeek and Adam Marjonen (285) all won by pin.
