The Fruitport girls bowling team had a surprisingly fun and exciting season, finishing second in the O-K Silver conference despite low preseason expectations.
Unfortunately the Trojans’ season came to an end last weekend at Division 2 regionals.
The Trojans finished in sixth place in the team tournament with a 10-game total score of 2,356.
[1]The competition went well in a lot of ways for Fruitport, which bowled a season-best team baker score of 204, and its two season-best regular game scores of 703 and 619.
It wasn’t enough, however, because only the top two teams advanced to the state tournament. Cedar Springs and Greenville finished first and second, respectively.
In the individual tournament, Genevieve Franklin was the top Trojan, rolling a six-game series of 902 and finishing 14th in the standings. Only the top seven bowlers qualified for state.

“Our girls team made tremendous progress this season, and we couldn’t be prouder of their growth and dedication,” said Fruitport head coach Tim McKeeby. “They finished with an impressive 13- 2 overall record and earned the title of conference runner-up.
“Genevieve Franklin, Kyleigh O’Connell and Harper Simila received All-Conference honors, while Ava Bradshaw was recognized as All-Conference honorable mention.
“With every bowler set to return next season, we’re excited to build on this year’s success, continue improving, and aim even higher.”
