Fruitport competitive cheer team falls just short of gaining a berth in regionals

The Fruitport competitive cheer team is happy with its performance in districts, despite barely missing the chance to advance to regionals.

The Trojans finished sixth out of 14 teams at the Division 2 district meet at Cedar Springs last weekend, and only the top four teams advance to regionals.

The final standings were tight. Fruitport finished immediately behind fifth-place Kenowa Hills and fourth-place Forest Hills Northern, only 11 points out of fourth. [1] [2]

Cedar Springs, Northview and Reeths-Puffer finished in the first three spots in the final standings.

“We went in and executed three incredible rounds,” said Fruitport head coach Saqora Conklin. “But we had some very tough competition, and we knew that going in. We did our job, and we performed well. We know what we need to work on for next year now.

“The girls put out beautiful rounds. But because we don’t have the tumbling in Round 2 that we need, we didn’t score with the others.

“I want to credit the whole team, they all played a huge role. There isn’t one girl who put more heart on that mat than anyone else.” [3] [4] [5] [6] [7]storage [8]mini [9]
