The Fruitport competitive cheer squad is continuing its domination of the O-K Silver conference.
The Trojans finished in first place last week in the second conference jamboree of the season, held in the Fruitport gym. They also took first in the first jamboree.
At least a second place finish at the final conference event, on Jan. 28 at Comstock Park, would sew up the team’s third straight O-K Silver championship.

The Trojans beat the field with relative ease, at least when all the points were tabulated. They finished with 699.68 points, followed by Comstock Park (670.20) and Belding (660.80).
They were tied for first after the Round 1 (execution), and were only two points ahead of the second place team after Round 2 (overall skills).
The Trojans scored a good 216.80 in Round 1, but fell a little short with a 193.78 in Round 2. A 200 score in either round is the goal.
[3]Fruitport sewed up first place with a very strong Round 3 (stunts), where they recorded a 289.10 score out of a possible 324.
“The team really pushed its Round 3 and executed beautifully,” said Fruitport head coach Saqora Conklin.
Conklin highlighted the performance of tw0 athletes, Bailey Butterfield and Sophie Christopher.
[5]Butterfield was moved into the Round 1 squad just two days before the meet and adjusted quickly.
Christopher had an even bigger challenge. She was inserted into Round 3 two days before the meet and Round 2 the day of the meet, and also performed well.
“Both Bailey and Sophie stepped up this week for their team with no complaints and only hard work,” Conklin said. “We had both competing in all three rounds for the first time this season. I am very proud of them!”
