Despite getting off to a slow start, the Fruitport boys basketball team continued its unbeaten start in conference play, using a big second half to put away Comstock Park on Friday night.
The Trojans found themselves in an early hole, trailing at the end of the first quarter, but dominated the rest of the way to earn a 70-48 win.
“After a slow start, I was happy with how our guys came out in the third quarter to extend our lead,” Fruitport Coach Steve Erny said of the second-half effort.

Comstock Park led 13-9 at the end of the first quarter, but Fruitport rallied for an 18-9 edge in the second to lead 27-22 at halftime.
The Trojans blew the game open in the third quarter with a 21-10 advantage, stretching the lead to 48-32 heading into the fourth. Fruitport outscored the Panthers 22-16 in the final quarter to close out the win.
Standout sophomore Dexter Lillmars once again paced Fruitport, leading the way with 27 points. He also tallied a handful of steals on the defensive end.
“Dexter Lillmars is leading us on both ends of the floor, and tonight he had several steals to go along with four threes,” Erny said.

Hudson Hazekamp had a big game from beyond the arc, and played a big role in the second half surge. He scored 11 of his 18 points in the third quarter and, for the game, connected on five three-pointers.
DayDay Williams scored nine points for Fruitport, while freshman Garrett Olson had seven, thanks to a 7-for-8 performance at the free-throw line. Brady Hanson added five points for Fruitport and David Johnson-Jimenez chipped in four.
Fruitport has now won six straight games since dropping a pair of contests in mid-December. The Trojans are 8-2 on the season, including 3-0 in O-K Silver conference play.
Fruitport will be at Hopkins for another conference matchup on Tuesday.
