The Fruitport boys and girls bowling teams definitely showed some holiday rust on Saturday at their own Fruitport Invitational at Northway Lanes.
The Fruitport boys finished sixth out of 18 teams in preliminary rounds and failed to qualify for the four-team championship playoff.
Peyton Wirt had the best day for the boys, rolling a 528 series and finishing 20th in the individual standings. Dylan Winskas was 29th with a 504 series while Bradley Dekker was 30th with a 503.

The Fruitport girls finished 11th out of 16 teams and also failed to make the playoff.
Harper Simila finished 21st individually with a 415 series, Kyleigh O’Connell was 38th with a 352 and Gen Franklin was 44th with a 332.
Grand Haven won the tournament championship in the boys division while Rockford won the title in the girls division.
The outcomes were somewhat surprising for both Fruitport teams, which have been playing extremely well since the beginning of the season.
“Saturday was a fun day of bowling,” said Fruitport head coach Tim McKeeby. “We hosted a lot of good teams at our invite. Both teams fell short of our goal of making the playoffs at our tournament. But that happens. Bowling is a fun but unforgiving sport at times.
“We learned a lot and shook off the rust from the two week break. We are determined to win our next few duals and fight for the conference titles.”
