The Fruitport boys bowling team got off to a strong start to the new season in competition over the weekend.

The Trojans opened last Friday with a 19.5-10.5 victory over Zeeland East in non-conference action.

The teams split the two baker games, leaving the score tied 4-4. But the Trojans won both of the regular games, 805-677 and 807-778, and added eight points to their total.

Peyton Wirt, Remy Parker and Bradley Dekker each won their head-to-head matchups in Game 1, earning the Trojans three more points. Dekker had the high score with a 192.

Parker, Dekker and Keenan Camp won their matchups in Game 2, earning three more team points. Parker had the high score of 177.

Fruitport also gained two points for winning the combined pin total from the two regular games.

“The boys team welcomed back a solid core from last season, however, it was our newcomers, Peyton Wirt and Remy Parker, who led us to victory,” said Fruitport Coach Tim McKeeby. “Remy and Peyton were our most valuable bowlers of the day. Overall, it was a good team win and we learned what we need to do to get even better.”

The Trojans also competed in the Jenison Invitational tournament on Saturday, finished sixth and just missed the cut to make the team playoff.

Judd was the top Fruitport bowler for the day with a 345 series.ministorage
