If it weren’t for pesky Gull Lake, the Fruitport volleyball team would have had a perfect day at home on Saturday.
As it turned out, the Trojans still had a lot of success in a tournament full of long and exciting matches.

The Trojans posted a 3-2 record and finished as runner-up in the Gold Division at their own Fruitport Invitational.
In pool play, Fruitport beat Whitehall 25-17, 25-19 and Coopersville 25-23, 25-23, then lost to Gull Lake 22-25 18-25.
In the Gold Division semifinals, the Trojans outlasted Mona Shores 25-21, 15-25, 15-11.

That brought a rematch against Gull Lake in the finals. Fruitport lost a marathon first game 35-33, then fell in the second 25-15.
Fruitport is now 10-4-1 on the season.

“I was very pleased with our finish today,” said Fruitport head coach Nicole Bayle. “The girls battled hard all day and pulled off some great wins. We still have lots of work to do to get to the place we want, but today was a great showing for us on our home court.”
Ellie Stroup, Izzy Hanson-Wilbur and Emma Danicek led the Trojans in kills with 25, 21 and 20, respectively. Emma Fecher served seven aces and had 51 assists.
Hanson-Wilbur led the defensive effort with 49 digs while Porter Johnson and Regan Wilson had 35 and 30, respectively. Addison Bordeaux had a hand in four blocks.
