The Fruitport volleyball team was challenged by two state-ranked teams on Saturday at the Byron Center Invitational and experienced a few growing pains.
The Trojans went 1-2 on the day, leaving their season record at 14-7.
They started the day on a positive note, sweeping Kalamazoo Central 27-25, 25-13.
Then came a loss to Byron Center (ranked honorable mention in the state in Division 1), 13-25, 14-25.

Fruitport finished against Edwardsburg (honorable mention in Division 2) and fell 6-25, 20-25.
Izzy Hanson-Wilbur had 16 kills and Ellie Stroup added 10. Emma Fecher had 23 assists and Alexa Sweet had 15.
Defensively, Porter Johnson led with 26 digs and Hanson-Wilbur had 18.
“While the outcome was not what we had hoped for, the opportunity to compete against high-level opponents provides valuable experience for our players,” said Fruitport head coach Nicole Bayle. “These challenges are essential to our continued growth and development as a team.”
