Fruitport juniors Jonathan Quigg and Julian Stowers may be new to tennis, but they have been bright spots for the Trojans in an otherwise tough season.

Quigg and Stowers defeated beat Cedar Springs’ Noah Gierke and James Marvin in a three-set battle on Monday, 6-1, 4-6, 10-7 at No. 3 doubles.

Fruitport lost the team competition to Cedar Springs 6-2.

“(Quigg and Stowers) are playing inspired tennis together, getting another win, and Medema rebounded from a tough weekend and has settled into his position recently,” said Fruitport Coach Brad Busscher.

Thursday’s match was also tough for the Trojans, who fell to Calvin Christian 8-0 in an O-K Silver conference duel.

Fruitport lost all eight matches in straight sets, but managed to win 23 individual games.

“Trying to overcome all these close games out on the court that are not going our way,” Busscher said. “Hopefully, implementing a few new elements to our game will allow us to get over the hump. Win more games, take sets and win more matches as a team.”
