The Fruitport soccer team has a chance to gain a firm grip on first place in the O-K Silver conference standings this week, and so far it’s going pretty well.
The Trojans went on the road on Tuesday and shut out Calvin Christian 3-0 in the first of two key conference battles. It was their eighth victory in the last nine games, and their fourth game in a row where they did not allow their opponent to score.
The victory keeps Fruitport perfect in the O-K Silver with a 5-0 record. Calvin Christian dropped to 3-2.
The Trojans will face the second part of their league test on Thursday when they visit NorthPointe Christian, which is 4-0-1.

Fruitport took an early lead when Ryder Merkins scored, with an assist from Hudson Hazekamp. Jorge Burgos-Yack added another goal in the first half, assisted by Carter Gregor.
The Trojans wrapped up the scoring with a goal from Davis Johnson in the second half, assisted by Jyles Smith.
Mason Kettel recorded six saves to earn the shutout in net for the Trojans, who are now 8-3-3 overall on the season
Coach Dan Hazekamp praised the back line of Ryder Doherty, Nathaniel Cribley-Cotto, Hudson Hazekamp, Ryder Chan and Gavin Wilson for solid defensive play. [3]
