It was a week of very big challenges for the Fruitport soccer team – all on the road – and the Trojans got through it without giving up a goal.

Last Saturday they visited a strong Reeths-Puffer squad and played the Rockets to a 0-0 deadlock.

During the week they visited Calvin Christian and NorthPointe Christian, their two top challengers in the O-K Silver conference race, and won both games in shutouts.

The Trojans capped it all off on Saturday at North Muskegon with an exciting 1-0 victory over the previously undefeated Norse.

Fruitport is now 10-3-3 on the season.

“I’m really proud of all 24 of our guys and their contributions throughout this gauntlet of a week on the road against really good teams,” said Fruitport head coach Dan Hazekamp. “In the last seven days we played teams with a combined record of 35-6-11 on the season. All four teams have been ranked at some point this season.

“It was a grind but we really feel our tough schedule has benefited us throughout the season and hopefully will help us at the end.”

Against North Muskegon, the score was 0-0 at halftime, and remained that way until Jorge Burgos-Yack scored the only goal, assisted by Carter Gregor.

Mason Kettel made five saves in goal to record the shutout for the Trojans.

Fruitport will host Belding in a conference matchup on Wednesday.storagemini
