Fruitport boys tennis team beats Kelloggsville for first win of the season

It was a day of firsts for the Fruitport boys tennis team.

The Trojans won their first team match of the season, downing Kelloggsville 5-3 in an O-K Silver conference match on Monday.

The victory was powered by the success of No. 1 singles player Remy Parker, who won his first match of the season, beating Kelloggsville’s Kenny Vi 6-2, 6-2.

Parker, a junior who played No. 2 singles last year and was expected to do the same this fall, moved up to the tough No. 1 spot when a teammate chose not to compete this year.

He has struggled against a lot of really good opponents in recent weeks, but broke through on Monday.

Playing number one singles is the most demanding position, and Remy does this knowing he goes up against the other team’s best player every match,” said Fruitport Coach Brad Busscher. “He is pretty humble and passionate about tennis, which is perfect for a team of beginners.”

While Parker’s win gave the Trojans their margin of victory, the team’s success would not have been possible without four wins in doubles.

Fruitport’s Kaleb Brege and Brian Meeuwenberg defeated Connor Sonke and Minh Le 6-3, 7-5 at No. 2 doubles. [3]

The Trojans’ Evan Olson and Joey Fountain downed Eason Fraiser-Wright and Thien Nguyen 6-4, 6-2.

Fruitport won at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles by forfeit.

Hopefully, these small steps will lead us to better play and results throughout the rest of the season,” Busscher said. [4]storage [5] [6]mini [7] [8] [9]
