The Fruitport boys golf team keeps getting better as the season draws to a close.

The Trojans finished in second place at Thursday’s O-K Silver Conference Championships at The Falls at Barber Creek. It was their best finish in conference competition this season.

Fruitport finished with a team score of 340, which was 16 shots behind the winner, NorthPointe Christian.

Three Trojan seniors finished in the top 10 in the individual standings in the tournament.

Chase Sullivan shot an 82 and took third place, Tyler Carlson shot an 84 and took seventh, and Cole Woodard shot an 85 and took ninth.

Fruitport’s Tyler Carlson, far left, and Chase Sullivan, far right, get their medals after making the All-Conference team.

Rounding out the Trojan scores were Eli Cuti (89, 13th place), Hunter Fritz (96, 19th) and Landon Lodholtz (100, 26th).

After the event, Sullivan and Carlson were named first-team O-K Silver All-Conference selections.

“It was a tough day on the course in terms of the weather conditions,” said Fruitport Coach Aaron Gregory. “I am proud of the way our guys didn’t quit out there today. Chase had a rough start, but battled back all day. Tyler Carlson played well all day, but had a rough stretch on holes 15 through 17. It was great to see him regroup and birdie 18. Cole Woodard held on to finish in the top 10 and Eli Cuti had his best round of the year.

“It is really fun to see this group of seniors finishing well. This is a great group of young men and I look forward to seeing how they play on Wednesday.”

The Trojans now enter postseason play at a Division 2 regional tournament at The Mines in Grand Rapids on Wednesday.
