Fruitport’s Josalynn Nowicki is on a roll.
Less than a week after winning the No. 1 singles championship at the GMAA tournament, Nowicki posted two victories last Thursday and won the same title at the O-K Silver conference championship tournament.
Nowicki defeated Comstock Park’s Kelsee Carlton 6-0, 6-2, then beat NorthPointe Christian’s Lydia Burkman 7-5, 6-2 in the championship match.
“Josalynn at one singles continues to play determined tennis,” said Fruitport Coach Brad Busscher. “She’s demonstrating an understanding of what it takes to be successful and execute her plan on the court.”
Nowicki was the only flight champion of the day for the Trojans, who finished third out of five teams in the tournament, only two points out of second place.
NorthPointe Christian won the event with 37 team points, followed by Calvin Christian (30), Fruitport (28), Comstock Park (17) and Kelloggsville (4).

Fruitport also reached the championship round at No. 2 and No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles, but lost those final matches.
Finishing as runners-up for the Trojans were Emma Fecher (No. 2 singles), Tara Sweet (No. 3 singles) and Abby Poort and Bailey Poort (No. 2 doubles).
Several other Trojans also had good days. Rylee Rufener and Lena Saffell (No. 1 doubles) and Mylee Mineni and Jordan Smith (No. 4 doubles) posted a 2-1 records while Gracie Ferrell (No. 4 singles) went 1-1.
“Overall it was a good day for Fruitport tennis,” Busscher said. “We believe that our team growth is happening at the right time and we look forward to the challenge of regionals Thursday to demonstrate our improved play.”
