The Fruitport girls track team cemented a spot as one of the top squads in the area by finishing third out of 12 teams at Friday’s Greater Muskegon Athletic Association Meet at Reeths-Puffer High School.
The Trojans finished with 76 points, behind only first place Mona Shores (110) and Reeths-Puffer (80).
Senior Julia Smith had the best day for the Trojans, taking first place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.34 and second in the long jump with a distance of 14 feet, 11.5 inches.

Also taking second in their events were the Trojans’ 4X400 relay team (Bailey Garner, Sophie Christopher, Genevieve Franklin, Chloe Anderson) with a time of 4:23.51 and the 4×800 relay team (Treasure Fleese, Zoe German, Kaylynn Pavlige, Valerie Pollock) with a time of 10:43.48.
Anderson took third place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.52, Christopher took third in the 400-meter with a time of 1:04.95, and Zoe German took third in the pole vault, clearing 7 feet, 6 inches.
All athletes finishing first through three won medals.
The Fruitport boys finished ninth out of 11 teams with 26 points. Whitehall won the boys competition with 121.

Luke Westerlund won a medal for finishing second in the shot put competition with a throw of 45 feet, 6.5 inches.
The Trojans’ 4×800 relay team (Vincent Pollock, Landon Johnson, Christian Pavlige, Ryder Merkins) also took second with a time of 8:29.18.
Vincent Pollock was third in the 1,600-meter run with a mark of 4:41.55.
