The Fruitport boys golf team shot what is believed to be the best 18-hole round in school history on Friday and finished in second place at the Comstock Park Classic at Scott Lake Golf and Practice Center.
The Trojans shot a team score of 327, which amazingly was still 20 shots behind first-place Holland.
Tyler Carlson had a great day for the Trojans, shooting a 76 and finishing second overall in the individual standings.

Chase Sullivan shot an 80 and tied for sixth individually. Hunter Fritz shot an 84 (12th place) and Eli Cuti came in at 87 (18th place). The top four Trojans all shot personal best rounds.
Landon Lodholtz (20th place) added an 88 for Fruitport and Cole Woodard (31st) shot a 94.
“It is really cool to see how much this group of guys has improved over the years,” said Fruitport Coach Aaron Gregory. “Today we shot a school best for an 18-hole event and we know none of our guys played to their full potential. This just speaks to their continued improvement, and how even when we don’t play our best as a team we can still be competitive.

“Hats off to Holland, who played well all day. I am proud of our guys for battling all day. Two players were feeling under the weather but still competed all day. Tyler Carlson and Chase Sullivan each added another top 10 finish to their season, and I hope they are not done yet, as we have two events left.”
The Trojans will next compete in the O-K Silver Conference Championship tournament at The Falls at Barber Creek.
