Fruitport baseball team gets even for Tuesday’s loss with a 4-0 shutout victory over Calvin Christian

Fruitport junior Trevor Rusnak smacked a three-run homer in the fourth inning on Thursday, propelling the Trojans to a 4-0 victory over Calvin Christian in the finale of a three-game conference series.

The win provided some redemption for the Trojans, who split a doubleheader with Calvin Christian on Tuesday and suffered their first loss of the season in Game 2.

Fruitport got on the scoreboard in the second inning when Dexter Lillmars doubled, advanced to third on a fly ball, then scored on an RBI single by Hudson Hazekamp.

The 1-0 score stood until the fourth, when Rusnak hit his sixth homer of the season to left-center field.

Lillmars pitched the win for the Trojans, scattering seven hits while striking out seven and walking only one in six innings.

Lillmars and Jax Flynn each totaled two hits.

“It was a good bounce back from the loss,” said Fruitport Coach Nick Reed. “We pitched well and got timely hitting. This team is so connected that they just keep grinding and picking each other up.”

The Trojans are now 12-1 overall and 11-1 in the O-K Blue conference standings.

They will next compete in Saturday’s Greater Muskegon Athletic Association Tournament.mini [4] [5]th brands [6] [7]eddie [8]storage [9] [10]
