The Fruitport soccer team extended its winning streak to five games with a 2-0 victory over Montague on Friday.

Sophomore Ava Vanveelan scored for the Trojans with 6:50 left in the first half, giving Fruitport a 1-0 lead.

Freshman Peyhton Beardsley finished off the win by scoring with 6:26 remaining in the game.

Fruitport dominated the game offensively, collecting 16 shots on goal, compared to two for Montague.

Trojans Coach Kyle Hall credited the defensive back line of Alexa Sweet, Izzy Hanson-Wilbur, Maycee Hall and Kenzie Pate for keeping the Wildcats from mounting an attack.

Goalie Ava Powell recorded the shutout.

“Growth is happening,” Hall said. “Whether it’s technically, tactically or mentally, the growth is really fun to see all the way around,” Hall said. “Ava Vanveelan joined the score line tonight, adding to a well-rounded list of goal scorers on the season. Offensively we created a plethora of dangerous situations all night.”
