When you’re going up against two other teams in a single track meet, it’s extra tough to take first place in your event.

But Fruitport’s Luke Westerlund did not seem to have a problem on Tuesday.

Westerlund, a junior, took first place in both the shot put and discus. He won the shot put with a toss of 46 feet, 8 inches and the discus with a throw of 123 feet, 1 inch.

That helped the Fruitport boys team claim a 91-45 victory over Kelloggsville in a three-way O-K Silver Conference meet. The Trojans lost to Belding 82-55 in the other matchup.

The Trojans are now 4-1 and in second place in the conference standings.

The Trojans’ 4×800-meter relay team – Vincent Pollock, Landon Johnson, Christian Pavlige and Ryder Merkins – also finished first with a time of 9:14.60.

Fruitport padded its point total with a lot of valuable second and third place finishes.

Taking second place were Nathaniel Cribley-Cotto in the 200-meter dash, Ryder Merkins in the 800-meter run, Pollack in the 1,600-meter run, and the 4×100 relay team of Shondaris McCain, SeanPaul OBrien, Franklin Kotecki and Cribley-Cotto.

The 4×200 relay team of Chan, Elijah Luna, Jayden DeVries and Damien Jones finished third, as did the 4×400 relay team of Pollock, Merkins, Pavlige and Landen Peck.eddiestorageminith brands
