Fruitport’s sister doubles team of Bailey Poort and Abby Poort had another great day on Saturday, plowing to a 3-0 record and winning the No. 1 doubles flight at the Jenison Invitational.

The Poorts defeated the team from Kalamazoo Loy Norrix 6-3, 6-0, battled hard to beat the team from Jenison 7-6, 6-3, then downed their opponents from Holland 6-4, 6-3.

The Poorts also took first place at Fruitport’s own invitational on April 19.

Overall Fruitport finished third in the four-team Jenison event with eight points, just ahead of Kalamazoo Loy Norrix (7). Jenison took first place with 22, followed by Holland (17).

Fruitport’s Josalynn Nowicki (No. 1 singles) had good  success, winning two of three matches.

Tara Sweet (No. 3 singles) and Gracie Ferrell (No. 4) both won one match.

Cara Hooker and Brystol Tenhove, Fruitport’s No. 3 doubles team, also won a match.

The Trojans struggled a bit more last Thursday in a 6-2 conference loss to NorthPointe Christian.

Nowicki defeated NorthPointe’s Lydia Burkman 6-3, 6-4 while Bailey Poort and Abby Poort downed NorthPointe’s No. 2 doubles team 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.th brandseddiestoragemini
