If the Fruitport softball team keeps hitting like this all season, opponents will have a tough time keeping up with the Trojans.
Fruitport made solid contact all night on Thursday and left rival Spring Lake in its dust, sweeping a non-conference doubleheader 17-4 and 15-3.
The Trojans are now 5-0 on the season. They have scored at least 15 runs in four of their victories.
In Game 1, Madyson Prout, Brooklyn Russell, and Kalli Tawney collected four hits, Kya Tawney added three and Brylee Dewitt and Kendall Lee each had one.
Russell, Prout and Tawney each hit home runs. The Trojans pounded out 18 hits in the first game.

Russell pitched the win, scattering six hits and striking out nine.
In Game 2, Kendall Lee went 3-for-4 at the plate, Prout added two hits while Kya Tawney, Russell, and Lee each drove in two runs.
Khloe Courtade earned the win on the mound, striking out five.
“I was very pleased with our girls’ mindset,” said Fruitport Coach Bob Dorman. “They came in very focused. They never settled. We talked in between games about our mental toughness and how we wanted two wins, and they stayed locked in. Every at-bat, the girls went up with positive thoughts, knowing that they were gonna get their pitch, and when they got it, they excelled. It was exciting and enjoyable to watch these girls. It made my job real easy.
“Both games we started out with four runs in the first inning that set the tone for the whole night.”
