The Fruitport softball team won one and lost one in a high-scoring conference doubleheader against Calvin Christian on Tuesday.

Brylee DeWitt drove in six runs on four hits to lead the Trojans to a 15-13 win in Game 1. Dewitt hit a home run to left field in the first, scoring three, singled in the third, scoring one, and singled in the sixth, scoring one.

Brooklyn Russell also had four hits for Fruitport, and the Trojans helped their own cause by stealing eight bases.

Russell pitched six innings, then Khloe Courtade pitched the seventh and earned the win for Fruitport.

The Trojans dropped the nightcap 19-12, experiencing their first conference loss of the season.

Kalli Tawney collected three hits in five at bats for the Trojans. She hit a solo home run to center field in the third inning, singled in the fourth inning, and singled in the seventh inning.

Courtade added four hits for Fruitport.

“What an offensive battle,” said Fruitport Coach Bob Dorman. “Both teams had 19 hits in Game 1 and 15 hits in Game 2. When you’re in an offensive battle like this, it’s gonna be a matter of who takes care of the ball on defense, and unfortunately we kicked the ball around a little bit tonight. Can’t afford to do that when we play an explosive offensive team.”
