The Fruitport boys golf team has been breaking a lot of new ground this week.
On Monday the Trojans took second place at the GMAA county tournament, which was the best finish ever at that event for the Fruitport golf program.
On Wednesday senior Tyler Carlson kept things going by finishing in first place in the individual standings at the O-K Silver conference jamboree at Egypt Valley Golf Course,
Carlson shot an even par 36 in the nine-hole event.

βIt was great to see Tyler play so well today,” said Fruitport Coach Aaron Gregory. “He has put in so much work over the past few years, and it’s awesome to see it coming together this year. This is the first golfer since I have been coaching that has won an event for Fruitport.”
Unfortunately the rest of the Trojans underperformed a bit. Fruitport finished in third place in the team standings, 17 strokes behind first-place NorthPointe Christian.
Chase Sullivan shot a 44 and finished in 12th place individually, followed by Cole Woodard (49, 20th place), Hunter Fritz (51, 23rd place), Eli Cuti (52, 24th place) and Landon Lodholtz (53, 26th place).
“As a team, this was a disappointing third-place finish,” Gregory said. “If a few of our players had just had average days, we would have been right there at the top. I am hopeful we will have a few events this year where four guys can play well together.β
