After starting the season with a 1-3 record, the Fruitport soccer team has suddenly found its game.

The Trojans built a 3-0 lead on Wednesday in a road game against Hopkins and held on for a 3-2 victory, their fourth straight win.

Fruitport is now 5-3 overall, and more importantly, 3-0 in the O-K Silver conference standings.

The game was scoreless at halftime, then the Trojans pulled ahead with three consecutive goals by McKenzie Beardsley on a long shot, Myla Parker on a corner kick, and Lainey Bol on another long shot that found the net.

Fruitport’s Myla Parker, who had a goal and an assist.

Hopkins got on the scoreboard with about 12 minutes left, then got its final goal with only five seconds remaining.

Parker and Violet Olinghouse has assists for the Trojans while goalie Ava Powell made seven saves.

“Overall it was a great win,” said Fruitport head coach Kyle Hall. “Credit goes to the whole team tonight, because everyone played well. It is encouraging to see how many girls we have on the scoring list now. Tonight McKenzie Beardsley and Lainey Bol broke into that list and picked up their first goals of the season. I couldn’t be more proud of those two, who show up day in and day out and put in the work.

“Collectively we have been hyper-critical of our play this season, with the focus and understanding of always improving. It was a great win, but we still took away lessons on the night in the area of game management.”

The Trojans will host Montague on Friday in a non-conference matchup.minith brandseddiestorage
