The Fruitport girls soccer team continued to learn early season lessons in a 5-0 loss to Mona Shores on Tuesday.

It was the third straight loss for the Trojans, who feature a number of very young players in the lineup who are cutting their teeth against some tough competition.

Mona Shores scored two goals within the first 10 minutes of the first half, then added three more in the second half.

Fruitport lost two players to injury during the game, which made its task even more difficult.

McKenzie Beardsley, who stopped 12 shots while playing goalie on Tuesday.

Trojan goalie McKenzie Beardsley had a decent performance on a busy night, recording 12 saves.

Fruitport fell to 1-3 on the season.

“No one likes losses, but we showed improvements in areas we have been focused on,” said Fruitport Coach Kyle Hall. “The last three games for us have been a test against top-tier competition. To see players individually and the team collectively responding and improving from that is extremely encouraging.

“Spring break will hopefully allow a little recovery time as we are currently down 3 starters.”

The Trojans will return to action on April 16, when they open O-K Silver conference play with a game at Belding.storageeddieth brandsmini
