A soccer team can pile up the shots, but if they don’t go in, they don’t do much good.

Luckily for the Fruitport girls soccer squad, just enough went in to give the Trojans a 2-1 win over Whitehall in non-conference action on Saturday.

Whitehall scored on its only shot of the first half and led 1-0 at halftime.

Fruitport rallied and won with two goals in the second half from Myla Parker and Kendall Kolberg.

Fruitport’s Kendal Kolberg, who scored the winning goal.

Overall the Trojans had a 31-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Fruitport’s back line defenders – Gracelynn Olson, Kenzie Pate, Alexa Sweet and Maycees Hall – were credited with strong play. Porter Johnson, McKenna Joslyn, Peyton Beardsley and McKenzie Beardsley played well on the offensive end.

“It was one of those days,” said Fruitport Coach Kyle Hall. “We produced dangerous attacking chances, but struggled with finishing. Despite the dubious scoreline, the girls handled the adversity well and continued to battle even after a missed penalty kick late in the second half. Credit to the whole team, who showed a refuse-to-lose mentality.”

The Trojans, who are now 3-3, will host Godwin Heights on Monday night.storageeddieth brandsmini
