The Fruitport girls soccer team broke a three-game losing streak and opened up O-K Silver conference play in style on Wednesday, pounding Belding 5-1.

The Trojans dominated the game from start to finish, leading 2-0 at halftime and adding three goals in the second half.

Four freshmen found the net for Fruitport – Peyhton Beardsley, Myla Parker, McKenna Joslyn and Porter Johnson. Junior Violet Olinghouse scored her first goal of the season for the Trojans.

Belding broke the shutout with a goal late in the game.

Fruitport goalie Ava Powell, who got a win in her first game back from injury.

Ava Powell was back in goal after missing a few weeks with an injury and made four saves. Kendal Kolberg was credited with strong play defensively.

“It was our first conference game and our first game back from spring break,” said Fruitport Coach Kyle Hall. “It was an encouraging night in the sense that the team is really buying into what we have been working on. They were able to maintain a large percentage of the possession time, but did so with the intent and recognition of when to get forward and create dangerous situations.”

The Trojans, now 2-3 overall, will visit Whitehall for a non-conference game on Saturday, then will host Godwin Heights in another O-K Silver game on Monday.th brandseddiestoragemini
